Pro tip: The 'low light' plant section at the big box store is a trap. Saw a Monstera labeled as low light in Phoenix. It's not. They just want it to sell.

My own graveyard of crispy, brown "low light" plants agrees with you. I fell for it with a snake plant that now looks like it fought a dragon and lost. They slap those tags on anything to move product off the shelves. It's a cruel joke for us hopeful plant parents with dark apartments.

Used to believe those tags, now I have my own crispy proof.

Hold up, I gotta push back a little here. I actually think those tags are more about what the plant can TOLERATE, not what it wants long term. No plant is truly a "low light" champ in the wild, but some will just survive in a darker corner without dying right away. A Monstera labeled low light probably means it won't crisp up and melt in a week like a fern would in that spot. The real trick is knowing that "low light" means the plant will just exist, not thrive or grow big. We can't blame the store for labeling things in a way that gets them sold to people with dark windows, it's on us to look up the real care.
