Heads up on that new 'fast set' mortar from Builders Plus
Used it on a chimney rebuild in Springfield last week, and it set up way faster than the bag said, like in 20 minutes. Lost a whole batch because I mixed too much at once thinking I had the usual hour. Learned the hard way to only mix small, golf-ball sized amounts with that stuff, even in cool weather. Anyone else run into this with their quick-set products?

Ugh, tell me about it. I had the same thing happen with a different brand last summer, wasted a whole bag. Now I just mix a tiny bit at a time, like you said.

Actually mixing a whole bag at once can be the move though. I did my whole backyard with one mix last month. The key is using it fast and having a second person help spread. You get a way more even color that way instead of patchy spots from small batches.
