Hot take: I finally switched to a magnesium float for my finish work last week and it's a total game changer.

Honestly, after 3 years of using a steel float on every job in Tampa, the way the magnesium one pulls the cream up on a hot day is just better, so who else has made the switch?

Nah, I'm still on team steel. That magnesium one just feels too light for me, like I'm not getting enough pressure on the finish.

Yeah that "not enough pressure" thing is real with the lighter tools. I had the same problem at first. What worked for me was just slowing my hand speed way down and letting the tool's weight do more of the work. You kind of have to fight the urge to push down like you would with steel.

I read that letting the tool do the work is the whole point.
