I finally switched from a standard 10-inch level to a 4-foot one for setting my first course, and the difference is night and day.

A four-foot level is that life-changing?

Know that feeling. I spent years trying to level cabinets with my little torpedo level, getting everything just a hair off. Switched to a four-footer last fall and realized my whole kitchen was probably built on a lie. My first project with it was a shelf, and I almost cried when it was actually straight.

Yeah that line about your whole kitchen being built on a lie hit me lol. I always thought a level was a level, you know? Like my little one-foot guy was fine. Then I tried to put up a long picture rail and the bubble was dead center but the whole thing looked wrong. Borrowed my neighbor's big level and saw it was off by like a full quarter inch over the length. Felt like I had to go back and check everything I ever built.

Honestly, I thought my short level was fine until I saw the long bow in my deck boards.
