Just read that a standard brick weighs about 4.5 pounds

Ngl, I found it in an old trade manual and did the math for a whole pallet. How many tons have we all lifted in a career?

Yeah, concrete pavers are no joke. What about those big solid cap blocks for a wall? Or the really dense firebrick for a kiln or a forge. Ever had to move a pallet of those? Makes you wonder how the old timers did it all day without wrecking their backs.

Oh man, @terry835, the old timers were just built different. My back hurts just thinking about moving a pallet of those cap blocks by hand.

My uncle used to work for a brick company back in the 80s. He told me they'd hand-stack an entire flatbed truck by noon, then go drink beers at lunch. Said they all had forearms like Popeye and just accepted the pain as part of the job. Makes you wonder what their retirement health was really like, right?

That "standard brick" weight is for a common red clay one, but man, the variety throws it off. A big concrete paver block can hit 10 pounds easy. So a pallet of those is a whole different beast. Ever unload a truck of those by hand? Your math on tons lifted just got way more interesting.
