Let my mortar set up 20 minutes before laying last week in Boise, and now I can't decide if it was a mistake
I was on a small garden wall job in Boise and got pulled into a phone call, so the mud sat in the hawk about 20 minutes before I started laying, and the brick just kind of slid into place with almost no tap needed. Some guys say that's lazy and the bond won't hold long term, others swear a little set time makes for a tighter joint, so I'm honestly torn on whether to keep doing it. Has anyone run into a wall that failed later because the mortar was too stiff going down?
