My worst day laying brick in Austin last summer nearly made me quit
I was working a retaining wall job near downtown Austin in July and it hit 105 degrees by 10am. The mortar started drying before I could even tap the bricks into place. I had to redo a whole 40-foot section because the bond was garbage from rushing. Foreman yelled at me for wasting materials, but what was I supposed to do with that heat? Ended up taking a $300 loss on materials and two extra days to finish the job. Has anyone else had a day where the weather just wrecked your work like that?

105 degrees by 10am jeez that's the kind of heat that makes you question every life choice that led you to that wall... I remember a patio job in Phoenix where the sand was so hot it literally burned through my kneepads... tried to wet down the mortar mix to buy some time and ended up with soup instead... foreman just shook his head and said "well that's on you buddy"... sometimes you just gotta laugh or you'll cry right?

Throw in a wet towel over your neck next time, @pat_moore, it helps a little but not much when the air feels like a hair dryer. That soup story hit too close to home, I tried dumping ice in my mix once and the foreman just walked away without saying a word. Gotta respect the guys who do this day after day in that kind of heat, it's a whole different level of tough.
