Rant: I spent 6 years buttering the head joints before laying the brick
A retired mason watching me on a job in Dayton asked why I was slopping mortar on the head joints before the brick was even set, said it just squishes out and wastes mud. Switched to buttering the brick itself and my walls got cleaner and I quit burning through bags. Anybody else get taught one way and never question it?
