Appreciation post: My mom was right about dried beans
She always said canned were a waste of money, but I finally soaked a pound of pintos overnight... they cost $1.50 and made three meals. Anyone have other cheap bean recipes?

Funny how the simplest life hacks are the ones our parents already knew. It's like we have to rediscover basic frugality for ourselves. Soaking beans is a perfect little victory.

Right, because our parents were just sitting on all this secret knowledge and chose to let us struggle. Thanks for that, guys. Seriously though @corap21, it's wild how we'll watch a whole 10 minute video about "bean soaking for efficiency" when grandma could have just told us in 10 seconds. We really do out here paying for apps to remind us to drink water when a glass on the counter works fine.

How many times did I burn rice before my mom casually mentioned the knuckle trick? Just cover it with water up to your first finger joint. That's it. @corap21 is right about those little wins. My grandma's big one was putting a damp paper towel under a cutting board so it doesn't slide. I bought those fancy grippy pads before she told me. We make things so hard.
