Can we talk about dry beans vs canned beans for budget meals?

I used to swear by canned beans because they're so convenient, but last month I did a cost breakdown. A 1-pound bag of dry pinto beans costs about $1.50 at my local Aldi and makes the same amount as 3 cans at $1 each. That's $3 vs $1.50, so dry beans save half the money, but you gotta soak and cook them for hours. Which side do you land on - time savings or money savings?

time savings" all the way. My ADHD brain can't handle remembering to soak beans.

... is it really that big of a deal though? I mean, I get the ADHD thing, @jessica707, but soaking beans isn't exactly a complex routine. You just toss them in water the night before and forget about them until the next day. Sounds like you're already forgetting other stuff, so what's one more thing on the list? Honestly, I think people overcomplicate cooking sometimes when it's really just a matter of making a habit out of it.

The biggest thing with dried beans is the planning part, which is exactly what trips people up when life gets busy. A can opener saves you that whole step, @jessica707, and it's not like the flavor difference is huge for most recipes anyway. Sometimes convenience just wins out over tradition, and that's okay.
