Can we talk about how my neighbor called my lentil soup 'depressing' and then told me she spends $80 a week on salad kits?

It made me realize that 'budget' food gets judged way harder than just throwing money at the problem, even when it tastes good and costs like $3 total to make.

Honestly, what is it with people thinking expensive means better? My buddy made this amazing bean chili last winter, and his coworker called it "prison food" while eating a $15 wrap from the cafe every day. The chili fed like six people for maybe five bucks total. Some folks just tie price tag to quality so hard they can't see past it.

What did she even say to defend an $80 salad kit habit?

Reminds me of my cousin who buys those fancy bottled smoothies. She swears they're a health need, not a want, because she's too busy to blend fruit. It's wild what we'll tell ourselves to keep a habit going.

She probably said it saves her time or that the pre-washed greens are worth it. People get locked into these little routines and just stop seeing the total cost. It's a lot of money for what's basically a bag of lettuce and a packet of dressing.
