Found out I was rinsing my canned beans for no reason after a guy at the laundromat in Tulsa called me out
Last month I was rinsing a can of black beans in the sink at my buddy's place and his neighbor just stared at me for a second. He asked why I was washing away the liquid, and I said that's what you do to get the salt off. He laughed and pulled up the label on his phone, and turns out that goop is mostly water and it thickens up chili and soups for free. I had been draining and rinsing beans since college because my old roommate said the juice was gross, so I was basically throwing out free thickener and buying cornstarch to make up for it. Now I just dump the can in, liquid and all, and my 3 dollar pot of beans tastes way better. Anyone else toss the can liquid or am I the last one holding onto this dumb habit?
