Honestly, my bean game was weak until this winter
Tbh, I used to just open a can of beans and heat them up, which got boring fast. Now I buy a 2 pound bag of dried pintos for $3 and cook a big batch in my slow cooker with some onion and garlic. Anyone got other cheap ways to make beans more interesting?

What kind of slow cooker do you use, and how long do you cook them for?

Hey @ross.lily, I just use a basic Crock-Pot and cook them on low for like 8 hours.

Ever try adding a smoked ham hock or some bacon ends to your slow cooker? That smoky flavor gets right into the beans. A splash of apple cider vinegar at the end brightens everything up too. I'll sometimes stir in a spoonful of chili powder or cumin while they cook. It makes the whole kitchen smell amazing and they taste way more complex.
