I finally got my dried beans soft without soaking them all night
I kept forgetting to soak beans before bed so I gave up on dry beans for a while and just ate canned ones. Last week I read that you can skip the soak entirely if you simmer them with a teaspoon of baking soda, so I tried it with a pound of pinto beans on Sunday. They went soft in about 90 minutes instead of the 3 hours I used to deal with, and that bag cost me $1.79 versus $1 a can for way less food. The soda does make the water look weird and foamy but you drain and rinse it anyway. Has anyone tried this with black beans, because I am wondering if they cook even faster?
