I keep seeing people buy the small jars of minced garlic at the store

I mean, a single 8 ounce jar costs like $4.50, but a whole head of garlic is maybe 75 cents. I timed myself last Tuesday and it took under 3 minutes to peel and mince enough for a week of meals. It tastes way better fresh, and you get way more for your money. Has anyone else switched from jarred to fresh and noticed the difference in their cooking?

Honestly, the jarred stuff always gives my food a weird, tinny aftertaste.

Wait, it takes you under three minutes?! I'm over here feeling like a kitchen champion if I get it done in ten! My fingers always get sticky and I can never get all the little skins off. Maybe I need a better method, but that time is seriously impressive.

My grandma showed me the smash-with-the-knife trick and it changed everything. @daniel_gonzalez is right about that weird taste, it's like the jar adds its own flavor. I see this with a lot of stuff now, where the easy option just makes the whole meal worse.
