I was buying the wrong kind of rice for years without knowing it

I was at the store last month and saw a 20-pound bag of jasmine rice for $12. I usually bought the small boxes of instant rice for $3 each. My friend, who cooks a lot, saw my cart and said, 'You know that big bag will last you months and costs way less per meal, right?' I did the math when I got home and felt so silly. I had been spending about four times as much for the same amount of food. Has anyone else had a simple switch like this save them a lot of money?

Yeah, bulk rice is a game changer. I started buying the 25 pound bags of basmati from the Asian market and it costs pennies per serving. The trick is to store it in a big airtight container so it doesn't get bugs.

Honestly I used to be with finleyl39 thinking big bags just go stale. But that airtight container trick you mentioned totally changed my mind. I got a big plastic bin with a locking lid for my basmati and it stays fresh for ages now. Tbh it's the only way I buy rice anymore.

Those big bags always seem to go stale before I can finish them.

I grabbed a 10 pound bag of calrose rice at Costco and it lasted me almost a full year. Just kept it in a plastic bin in the pantry.
