My cheap grocery store brand pasta sauce was a total win

I always bought the name brand stuff for about $4 a jar, but last week I tried the store's own brand for $1.89. The taste was almost the same, and it had less sugar which was a nice surprise. What other store brand items have you guys found that are just as good?

Honestly, I've been burned too many times. The cheap stuff always tastes watery or way too salty to me. I'd rather pay a bit more for the real deal.

Has anyone tried buying the less expensive stuff and then doctoring it up yourself? I add a splash of fish sauce and a pinch of white pepper to the cheap packets and it fixes the watery problem most of the time. Not saying it's the same as premium, but for a quick fix it hits the spot without breaking the bank.
