My grandma's penny pinching advice about beans was dead wrong
Back in 2012 my grandma told me to always soak dried beans overnight because it was the only way to keep the gas down. I followed that for like 8 years, always planning a day ahead. Then last fall I forgot to soak some pintos and just boiled them for 3 hours with a pinch of baking soda. No difference in gas, taste, or texture. I felt like I wasted a decade of meal planning. Has anyone else had a family food rule that turned out to be total nonsense?
