My grocery budget got wrecked by a surprise vet bill last month...

I had to feed my family of four for a week on about $35, which was all I had left after paying the vet. I basically lived on a giant pot of lentil soup and a huge batch of rice and beans... it was pretty rough. Has anyone else had to stretch a tiny food budget for a week and found a meal that actually felt okay to eat every day?

You're actually in a pretty decent spot with $35 if you plan it right. That lentil soup and rice combo is honestly a solid foundation - beans and rice together make a complete protein, so your family was getting proper nutrition without realizing it. A big batch of chili with canned tomatoes and kidney beans can stretch for days too, just add different toppings like shredded cheese or a dollop of yogurt to keep it from getting boring. The real trick is buying in bulk and using every single ingredient across multiple meals, which is something most people don't bother doing even when they have a normal budget.

Wait, a family of four for a week on $35? I mean, that's actually insane. I don't know how you made that work.

Ever try adding a fried egg on top?

Remember when you, @reesej27, put an egg on pizza and it was weirdly good?
