Stopped tossing chicken bones and made stock that lasted 5 meals for under $3
Three weeks ago I started keeping a bag in the freezer for chicken bones and veggie scraps instead of tossing them, and when it filled up I simmered the whole thing for 4 hours with a bay leaf and some peppercorns. Strained it and got about 8 cups of stock that I froze in ice cube trays, and it turned a $4 bag of rice and beans into soup I ate all week. Does anyone here save scraps like this, or am I just being cheap about stuff most people throw out?
