Unpopular opinion but canned tomatoes beat fresh for budget pasta sauce almost every time
I tried making sauce with fresh Roma tomatoes from the farmer's market last week and spent like $8 for barely 2 cups. Meanwhile a $1.50 can of San Marzano style tomatoes gave me way more flavor and thicker sauce without standing over the stove for an hour. My roommate swore fresh was the only way but after tasting both side by side she admitted the canned version was better. Anyone else ditch fresh tomatoes for budget cooking?

Right? I love how the "fresh is always better" crowd goes quiet after the blind taste test. I've converted more people with a $1.50 can than with any fancy farmer's market haul.

My frozen peas beat my homemade soup every single time and I'M the one who cooked it.
