Warning: My cracked slow cooker cord was draining my food budget

The cord had a big crack and I thought the whole thing was trash. I ordered a cheap replacement part online for about seven dollars. Now I can make big batches of cheap oatmeal and stews again without wasting money on new gear.

Smart move fixing the cord instead of tossing the whole unit. That saves a good chunk of money and keeps stuff out of the landfill. Those replacement parts are usually pretty easy to swap out too.

My coffee maker's cord frayed last month, and I thought I'd be handy by replacing it myself. Like @christopher_foster89 said, it should be easy, but I somehow plugged the new cord in wrong and tripped every circuit in my kitchen. I spent an hour flipping breakers and feeling pretty dumb about the whole thing. At least the appliance itself is still out of the landfill, even if my pride isn't.

Ever try to wire a plug and almost burn the house down?

That landfill argument always seems a bit overblown for one coffee maker, right?
