A friend called my travel style 'frugal but frantic' last year
They pointed out that my plan to hit five cities in seven days across Italy was more about checking boxes than enjoying the trip. I was always rushing for the cheapest bus or train, even if it meant losing half a day. So I tried something new for a week in Portugal. I picked just Lisbon and Porto, booked a slow train between them for 22 euros, and stayed in each place longer. It cut my stress and let me find free walking tours and cheaper local eats I would have missed. Anyone else switch from a packed schedule to a slower pace and actually save money on stress?

That's a great way to travel. Slowing down often saves money on transport and last minute bookings. You end up spending on better stuff, like food.

Remember that time we got stuck in that small town because of a train strike? Best food of the whole trip.

Did you find yourself spending less overall by not rushing to the next city? Slower travel seems to cut transport costs and let you find better deals.
