Am I the only one who thinks hostels are a rip-off now?
I tried staying in a hostel in Barcelona last month because everyone says they're the budget way to go. But my bunk cost me $45 a night plus another $10 just to use a locker and $8 for a towel rental (seriously). Meanwhile, a friend booked a private room at a small guesthouse three blocks away for $55 a night with free breakfast and a real door. So I'm asking: are hostels still actually cheaper when you add up all the extras, or are they just a trap for solo travelers like me? What's your experience with the hidden costs?

$45 plus extras is insane, just get the guesthouse.

Booked a guesthouse for my trip last year and it was way cheaper in the long run. The $45 per person thing adds up fast when you have to pay for parking, WiFi, and breakfast separately. Plus the guesthouse had a kitchen so we cooked our own meals and saved a ton. Location was even better since we were in a real neighborhood instead of the tourist strip. Definitely the way to go in my book.
