Got stranded in Phoenix over a $9 mistake, now I pack smarter
Missed my last bus out of Phoenix at 11pm because I didn't download the offline map and my phone died. Ended up paying $60 for a motel near the station, which stung way worse than the $9 fare. Anyone else ever lost money to a dead battery on a trip?
Does your phone battery seem to die faster when you actually need it? I had something similar happen in Seattle a few years back, but the twist was that I had a paper map. The problem was that I left it on the bus seat, and then I spent an hour walking the wrong way along the water because I thought the pier was the station. Ended up missing my ferry and sleeping in a 24 hour diner booth with my backpack as a pillow for a few hours. That $12 plate of eggs and hash browns was the real kicker, and now I keep a little paper list of where I'm going hidden in my sock. Not the most comfortable thing, but beats getting lost.
