Hit 30 hostels in 3 years. That number surprised me.

Was just counting my passport stamps from the last 3 years of budget trips. 30 hostels across 12 countries and I only lost one pair of socks. Anyone else ever tally up their hostel count?

Actually I gotta push back on this a bit. 30 hostels in 3 years sounds like you're spending more time moving between places than actually experiencing them. I've done maybe 8 hostels in 5 years and each one I really got to know the area, the people, the local spots, not just the bunk bed in room 42. You probably walked through 12 countries without learning more than how to find the nearest bus station and the cheapest beer.

Saw a study once that said moving too fast actually makes memories less vivid, kinda tracks with what you're saying.

Nah man I gotta disagree hard. 30 hostels in 3 years means you're seeing way more variety. I did 25 hostels in 2 years in Europe alone and the whole point is you don't need to settle down to get the real feel. Every place you stay, you meet new people who give you tips for the next spot. I learned about a hidden beach in Croatia from a guy I shared a room with for one night, found a killer street food market in Budapest because a receptionist told me about it. If you only do 8 hostels in 5 years you're basically living in a few cities, not traveling. The real memories come from moving fast and seeing the differences between places, not sitting in one spot getting comfortable.
