Just hit 50 flights in a single year and it broke my budget brain
I was scrolling through my flight history (just out of boredom, really) and realized I've taken 50 flights this year. That number hit me hard because it's way more than I ever thought I'd do, especially on a budget. I'm usually the person who brags about finding $49 one-ways, but this adds up even with the cheapest hacks. My total came to around $2,300 just in airfare, and that's before airport food and baggage fees. It made me wonder if I'm actually saving money by flying everywhere or just fooling myself with low base prices. Has anyone else tracked their yearly flight count and gotten a reality check about what they're really spending?

Spent $18 on airport sushi once and still regret it two years later.

That $2300 figure is actually pretty decent for 50 flights when you think about it, but the hidden costs are what kills you lmao. I hit 35 flights last year and my airport food alone was like $400 because I always grab something at the gate. The real question is what your time is worth, because an 8 hour bus ride might save money but it also kills a whole day.

Yeah and the airport food thing is real, I had a layover in Denver once and spent $18 on a sad wrap and a bottled water because I was starving and didn't pack anything. That's the thing nobody talks about, you end up paying for convenience at every step. I actually started packing granola bars and a reusable water bottle just to avoid that, saved me like $50 a trip easy. But then you gotta think about the bus situation too because I took Greyhound a couple times to test it out and one time the AC broke in the middle of July and we sat on the side of the highway for two hours, so that day was totally shot anyway. At least with a flight you're usually stuck in a seat for like 2 hours max, not 8 hours of misery with strangers arguing over seat reclining.
