Just realized my 14 day trip to Spain cost less than my monthly rent

I just got back and tallied everything up, and the total was $1,150. My rent is $1,300. I know everyone says you need to stay in hostels to save big, but I actually found a cheap private room in Valencia for $35 a night through a site not many people use. I cooked most meals and took regional trains instead of the fast ones. It felt like a real vacation, not a budget punishment. Has anyone else hit a number that made you rethink what 'cheap travel' actually looks like?

Check out local rental sites instead of the big global ones, you can find way better deals on rooms. I mean, it takes a bit more digging but it's totally worth it.

My grocery bill last month was more than that trip.

But sometimes the extra effort just isn't worth the savings.
