My food budget for a week in Bangkok was $42 and I ate like a king
I set a crazy goal of $6 a day for food, thinking I'd be stuck with plain rice. I hit $42 total by only eating at local street stalls and markets away from Khao San Road. A full pad thai was 50 cents, and fresh mango cost 30 cents. I skipped all sit-down restaurants and tourist spots. It proved you don't need to spend a lot to eat well if you go where the locals go. Has anyone else managed to keep a daily food budget under $10 in a major city?

That 50 cent pad thai is the real Bangkok deal. I did the same in Hanoi for about four bucks a day.

Oh man, that reminds me of a street cart in Chiang Mai that had the best khao soi for like a dollar. Made me think of you, @jana881, and your question about finding cheap eats. Those little places are the best.

Wait, 50 cents? Where did you find pad thai that cheap?
