My hostel in Lisbon was a total dive, then I paid an extra $5 for a different room and it felt like a luxury hotel

Am I the only one who thinks the $25 dorm bed and the $30 private room in the same building can be completely different worlds, or is it worth gambling $5 to find out?

@claire_grant34 kinda hit it on the head, that five bucks can be a straight up miracle. But just so we're clear, it's not always a dorm vs. private room thing. Some hostels have "deluxe" dorms that are basically the private room without the privacy, so the gamble is still there but the reward changes.

Wait, does that mean you end up paying extra for what's basically a fancier bunk bed with no snoring guarantee? @mianelson I had a friend who booked a "deluxe dorm" in Barcelona once and it was just the bunk beds with nicer sheets but still got stuck next to a dude who snored like a lawnmower, lol.
