Overheard a guy at the airport say he books two one-way tickets instead of round trips
He said it saved him $80 on a flight from Chicago to Denver last month because the airline's system priced them cheaper separately. Has anyone else tried this or is it just a lucky fluke?

Honestly, $80 just for booking them separate sounds wild, I didn't think airlines worked like that.

Airlines figured out years ago that they can charge more for what should be the exact same thing. It's like buying a six pack of soda versus buying six individual cans at the gas station. Same product, different price tag just because of how you walk up to the counter. Just another way they squeeze an extra few bucks out of people who don't know the workaround yet.
