Pro tip: I picked a hostel with a kitchen over one with free breakfast

Ngl, I was stuck between a cheap hostel in Lisbon that offered a free morning meal and one that was $5 cheaper but had a full guest kitchen. I went with the kitchen, spent maybe 15 euros on groceries for 3 days, and made my own lunches and dinners. Anyone have other good food hacks for cutting costs on the road?

Wait, only 15 euros for three days? That's insane. I need your grocery list, seriously. The hostel breakfasts are always just stale bread and cheap jam anyway.

Didn't I read that bulk oats and peanut butter are the secret?

That grocery list must be magic, @murray.cora, because my kitchen hack just involves finding the nearest street food vendor!

Backpacker forums swear by the pasta and jarred sauce combo as the cheapest way to feed yourself for days. @the_sam is not wrong about street food though, it's usually just as cheap as cooking and way less work.
