Question about saving on hotel costs for mandatory work trips

Honestly, my boss requires us to attend training in another city next month, but our per diem is super low. Tbh, I've been scanning for budget hotels that include breakfast to cut food expenses. Ngl, last time I booked a room with a kitchenette to make my own meals, which helped a lot. Does anyone have tricks for finding deals when you have to travel for work stuff?

My record is a $60 a night hotel in Phoenix that had a microwave and fridge. I'm such a pro at cheap stays I once booked a room with a view of a brick wall and called it cozy. @jakeb81 is right about the meal prep saving cash, but I take it further by packing my own coffee. If you can find a place with free breakfast and a kitchenette, you're golden. Just watch out for hidden fees that eat into your per diem.

Honestly, all this talk about per diems and kitchenettes is a bit much. Jakeb81 makes a fair point about saving money, but it's not like we're solving world hunger here. Sometimes you just book a room and deal with it.

Kitchenettes are key, I do the same. Maybe look for spots with free breakfast and easy cancel rules. Every bit helps with those tight per diems.

Absolutely, cooking your own meals saves so much cash on the road. It turns a tight per diem into something you can actually work with. Those little savings really do add up fast.
