Yeah, calling hostels directly can work sometimes, but saying they let you sleep in the common room isn't exactly the same as having a proper reservation. Most hostels these days won't just let random people crash in their lounge, especially after midnight. They might offer you a dorm bed or a staff room if they have something free, but the common room is usually off limits for sleeping unless it's an emergency situation. You would be better off checking last minute sites or even walking to a few nearby hostels to ask in person. People should know their rights too since European hostels often have to accommodate you if they booked you in wrong, but that doesn't apply to lost reservations like this. I've used it a few times but it felt super hit or miss, like one time they gave me a partial refund after a booking mess but another time they just told me to contact the hostel directly. What was your experience with it? Because honestly I feel like their support is just a bot half the time unless you catch them during certain hours. Also curious if you've ever had them actually rebook you somewhere nearby for free when things went wrong, or if that's just a rumor people spread.
