Serious question, has anyone else found that skipping hostels for a cheap hotel in Prague actually saved them money?

I booked a $45 a night hotel for a week last fall thinking it was a splurge, but after adding up all the hostel locker fees, the extra meals out because the kitchen was always full, and the transport costs from being further out, the hotel was cheaper and way less stressful, so what's the real budget move here?

Ever notice how hostel extras nickel and dime you into a higher bill? Your math checks out, the quiet hotel win is real once you stop paying for lockers, stolen food, and cross town buses. I started doing the same split, hostels for a night or two to meet people then a cheap hotel to actually rest. The budget move is adding up all the hidden costs, not just the bed price.

Totally get what you mean about the hidden costs adding up. Park.miles is right about the nickel and diming, it's so real. That quiet hotel room where you can just decompress and make your own food without hassle is a game changer for your budget and your mood. I've had trips where the stress of a crowded hostel kitchen made me spend way more on takeout. Sometimes the cheaper bed price is a total trick.

My last trip to Berlin proved hostels cost more once you add all the little fees, lol.
