Shoutout to the time I picked hostels over hotels for a week in Prague
Last spring I had to choose between spending $90 a night on a budget hotel or $25 a night on a hostel in Prague for 8 nights. I went with the hostel thinking id save cash but hated sharing a room with snorers. After 3 nights I caved and booked a private room at the same hostel for $45 a night which still saved me $360 total. The private room had a lockable door and a real bed but I still got the free breakfast and common area. Has anyone else tried the hostel private room trick and found it worth the middle ground?

Oh man, you basically discovered the hostel cheat code and I'm just sitting here jealous I didn't think of it sooner... Private room for half the price of a hotel sounds like a win to me. Nothing like paying extra just to not hear some stranger snore like a chainsaw.

I used to be all about cheap dorms until I did the math on a trip to Berlin and realized I was paying way less for privacy. You're totally right, private rooms in hostels are the sweet spot.
