Totally feel your pain dude, had almost the exact same thing happen last month trying to book a place in Barcelona... spent like 3 hours on some sketchy booking site that kept crashing at checkout. Finally gave up, called the hostel directly, and the guy answered in two rings and had me a room in five minutes. Plus their direct price was actually cheaper than what the third party site was showing after all their fees. I swear these middleman sites just make everything harder than it needs to be.

Wait, are we really gonna pretend that calling random places directly is always the smooth move though? @nguyen.morgan you got lucky that the hostel guy picked up fast and had a room, but half the time I call a hotel direct and it's like pulling teeth to get someone who speaks clear english or even knows what rooms are available. Plus those sketchy booking sites sometimes have better cancellation policies than the places themselves, which saved me once when my flight got cancelled and they gave me a full refund no questions asked. The middlemen are annoying for sure, but they exist because a lot of smaller places can't or won't run their own booking systems well.
