Unpopular opinion: Those all-you-can-eat hostel breakfasts aren't worth it

I paid $18 extra for a hostel in Barcelona last week that bragged about a free breakfast buffet. The bread was stale and the coffee was instant, so I gave up after day two. Has anyone else found a good breakfast deal that's actually edible?

Just hit a local market for bread and cheese instead, way better.

Markets are the move for sure. Did that in Lisbon, spent like 4 euros on fresh bread, cheese, and fruit from a little stall, was way better than whatever sad buffet they had. Saved money and actually felt full for a few hours.
