I finally figured out my grocery bill was killing my budget

I was at the checkout in my local Kroger last month, and the total came to $187. I nearly choked. I was just buying normal stuff for the week, nothing fancy. I sat in my car and went over the receipt line by line. Turns out, I was buying a lot of pre-cut veggies and single-serve snacks without even thinking. I decided to try something different. The next week, I went to the farmer's market first and got whole vegetables for half the price, then only went to the store for what was left. My bill dropped to $112 for the same amount of food. It's a simple switch, but it adds up fast. Does anyone else have a go-to spot for cheaper produce, or am I just late to this game?

Farmer's markets are a solid move. I started hitting up the ethnic grocery store in my neighborhood too, their produce section is way cheaper for basics like onions and peppers.

Yeah the ethnic grocery store thing is real. My buddy went to one for the first time and was shook, he got like a giant bag of limes for a dollar and just stood in his kitchen making margaritas for a week.

My local Aldi is a lifesaver for this. I got a bag of whole carrots for 89 cents last week, and the same weight of pre-cut ones was almost four bucks at the regular store. I started buying whole heads of lettuce and just tearing the leaves myself, it takes two minutes and saves a fortune. You don't realize how those convenience fees add up until you see the receipt.
