Talking to my neighbor about his backup fund changed how I see my own

He mentioned he keeps $3,000 set aside just for car repairs after his transmission blew last year on the highway near Austin. Made me wonder if I should separate my emergency fund into specific buckets like that too - anyone else do that?

Who actually has the patience to sort their savings into little labeled jars like we're in kindergarten?

My coworker spent three hours labeling mason jars for "vacation fund" and "car repair" and then lost interest by week two. @blake792 knows the real struggle is just trying to keep track of which pile of cash is for rent and which one is for pizza. It's funny how we pretend having a system makes us responsible adults, but really we're all just guessing and hoping nothing breaks at the same time.

Little labeled jars" - you mean my "critical thinking fund" and "emergency takeout budget"? Yeah, I definitely have that whole system figured out. Definitely NOT just shoving random cash in a sock drawer and hoping for the best.
