Appreciation post: my coworker told me to stop using washi tape as page markers

I used to stick a strip of washi tape on the edge of each monthly spread to mark where I left off. Looked cute but it kept peeling off and gumming up the pages. My coworker Jenna said to just use a thin strip of cardstock with a tab punched out instead. I tried it six weeks ago and it's way easier to flip to the right week without tearing anything. Anyone else have a buddy who saved you from a dumb journaling habit?

I was totally one of those people who thought washi tape was the cutest solution ever lmao, but yeah my pages got all sticky and gross after a while too. Jenna's cardstock trick sounded so basic to me at first like how could that possibly be better, but now I'm a convert honestly it just works. I used a heavier cardstock like that other person said and punched a neat little hole with a tiny punch, zero fraying after months of daily flipping. The tape always peeled up at the edges for me no matter how careful I was, so this is way less annoying to deal with.

Jenna's cardstock tab trick is better than washi tape, but does it actually hold up over time without the paper getting dogeared? I'm curious if you had to reinforce the hole or if the tab stays solid through a few months of flipping.

Stick with a heavier cardstock like 110lb and punch the hole clean with a small hole punch, I've had tabs last well over six months without fraying or tearing. Your mileage may vary if you're using thinner paper or a standard 3-hole punch though, those bigger holes can let the tab shift around and get dogeared faster.
