I finally saw my bullet journal wasn't working at a coffee shop in Denver

I was trying to plan my week and realized I'd spent 45 minutes just drawing boxes and lines. My friend looked over and said, 'That looks like a lot of work for a to-do list.' It hit me that I was making art, not a tool to help me. How do you keep your bujo from getting too fancy and slow?

Hold on, does Sam's story actually mean the whole idea is bad? @aaron_adams, sometimes a tool just doesn't fit what someone wants to do. Maybe Sam tried to use it for a project it wasn't right for. It doesn't automatically make the tool itself wrong for everyone. People have different ways of working. I see folks get really mad when a new method doesn't match their old one, but that's just how new things go sometimes. It's not always some big failure.

Yeah, Sam probably tried to jam it into a workflow that just wasn't built for it. I've seen guys do that with new tools all the time at the yard. They get this new thing, and instead of adjusting how they work, they try to force it to do the same old job the same old way. That's when you get frustrated and blame the tool. But if Sam was trying to use it for something like complex texture work or animation sequences that need a lot of tweaking, yeah, it might not be the right pick. Still doesn't mean it's useless for someone doing simple sketches or fast concepts. Sometimes you just gotta know when to put it down and grab a different brush, you know?
