That $60 washi tape haul from Etsy is now a drawer of regrets

I spent 60 bucks on 15 rolls of 'vintage' washi tape last March based on one aesthetic TikTok, and every single roll either peels off my page corners in 2 days or bleeds through the spread, anyone else fall for the pretty packaging trap?

Not sure if anyone's thought about the actual adhesive chemistry with those "vintage" styled tapes. The pretty paper is often coated with a thin layer that looks aged but it also messes with the glue's ability to stick. Meanwhile the ones that bleed are probably using a thinner base paper that just can't hold ink. So you're basically paying for a design that's guaranteed to fail on both ends, the seller knows it too, they just count on people tossing the packaging before testing one roll. That TikTok aesthetic is doing a lot of heavy lifting for products that would never survive a single honest unboxing video.

Blame the part where everything on that app looks perfect until it arrives. I got sucked into a set of $30 "antique" brass book corners once and they tarnished in a month, now they sit in a jar with the other stuff I bought for a vibe that never materialized. The packaging always does its job, it's the product that lets everyone down.
