Appreciation post: My sister said I'd regret cutting off my best friend and she was dead wrong

She kept telling me 6 months of friendship history was more important than the $400 she stole from my wallet. I finally blocked her number after 2 years of doubting myself and my bank account hasn't looked back. Anyone else have someone try to guilt you into keeping a toxic person around?

The $400 thing is rough. In my experience, people who push you to stay in a bad friendship often have their own messed up views on loyalty. I've seen it with my buddy from work. His mom kept saying he should forgive his buddy who borrowed his car and wrecked it. She just couldn't admit that sometimes cutting someone loose is the only sane thing to do. Your sister probably thought she was helping but she was actually feeding into a belief that staying in a bad situation is somehow noble. Your wallet and your peace of mind prove otherwise.

Saw my friend lose $500 to a "buddy" who never paid him back and still calls him dramatic for cutting contact.

Yeah, that's a tough spot. I had a buddy who lent his truck to his "best friend" so the guy could move his girlfriend's stuff. The dude ended up taking it on a road trip to Vegas without asking, blew a tire, and didn't even tell my friend for like two weeks. When my buddy finally called him out, everyone was like "he's your friend, just let it slide." My friend ended up dropping him and honestly, his life got way less stressful. Sometimes people just don't get that trust is earned, not a given.
