Chose my brother's wedding over my best friend's birthday party and haven't looked back
Back in March I had to pick between my brother's wedding in Austin and my best friend's 30th party in Dallas on the same weekend. My friend got real nasty about it, said I was choosing blood over real friendship and that really stung. I went to the wedding, had a great time, and my friend hasn't spoken to me since. I guess some bridges just have to burn so you can see who really matters. Has anyone else had to make a choice like that and felt weirdly fine about it afterward?

Hold up, I actually kinda see your friend's point here lol. Your brother's wedding is a huge deal sure, but your best friend's 30th is also a once-in-a-lifetime milestone. You had months to talk this out with your friend and find a compromise, like maybe flying to Austin for the ceremony Saturday morning and then heading to Dallas for the party Saturday night. Instead it sounds like you just picked a side and let the bridge burn without even trying to build a ladder. Your friend probably feels like you didn't value their history or the effort they put into planning this big party for you. Sometimes being "fine" about it just means you're avoiding the hard conversation about why you let that friendship go so easily.

My buddy Mike had almost this exact situation a few years back. Missed his cousin's bachelor party in Vegas because his college roommate's kid was being born that weekend. He tried to do both, flew in Saturday morning but the baby came early and he missed the whole thing. His cousin didn't talk to him for like six months. Sometimes people just need to accept that you can't split yourself in half and be everywhere at once.
