Cutting off my mom with a letter beat doing it in person at Thanksgiving
I tried the face to face talk at her house in Reno 3 months ago and it turned into a 2 hour guilt trip, but mailing a short letter saying I needed space actually stuck. Has anyone else noticed people respect a written boundary more than one you say out loud?

That guilt trip sounds rough, sorry you had to deal with that. Writing it down probably works because she can't argue with paper the way she can with you standing right there.
