Dropped $200 on a 'life coach' who just read me affirmations off her phone

I paid Karen Mitchell from Cleveland $200 for a 45 minute session after my uncle cut me off last month, thinking she'd help me process the guilt. She literally scrolled through an app and read out loud things like 'I release relationships that no longer serve me' for half the time. Has anyone here actually gotten real help from a therapist or coach after cutting ties, or is it all just expensive fluff?

Man, that sucks. For me, just finding a local support group where people actually talked about their real messy feelings helped way more than any paid stranger reading from a script.

Isn't it wild how the real fix for feeling alone usually ends up being just finding other people who feel the same way? @the_susan you're totally right about that scripted therapist thing. I've noticed this pattern where we keep trying to buy answers from professionals when the real help is sitting right next to us in a room full of strangers. It's like we forgot that humans are wired to share stories and lean on each other. Paid help has its place for sure, but nothing beats someone nodding at you because they've been through the exact same mess. We need to build more of those simple, honest spaces where people just show up as themselves.

Hold up though are we really saying therapists are useless now? I mean yeah i get the whole "scripted" complaint but thats kind of a hot take. Not everyone has a room full of friends or a support group handy. Some people dont even have a single person they trust. Like are we just supposed to tell them "oh just find your tribe" and call it a day? Thats a lot of pressure on someone who can barely get out of bed. And yeah professionals can be hit or miss but theres a reason we pay them. Theyve got training and boundaries that your buddy from the bar doesnt have. Sometimes you need someone who wont blab your secrets or get burnout from hearing your worst days. So i dunno. Lets not act like community fixes everything. Its great when it works but its not a magic bullet.
