Lost $450 on a guru course that promised to fix my family drama
I paid a life coach $450 for a 4-week course on setting boundaries with toxic siblings. She had me write letters and do roleplay exercises but never gave me real tips for handling my brother's angry texts. After week 3 I realized she was just reading from a $15 workbook I could have bought myself. I finally cut off my brother last month and it was way simpler than any of her scripts. Did anyone else waste cash on a program that made things worse instead of better?

That thing about her reading from a $15 workbook got me. My friend Sarah paid some "family harmony expert" $300 for basically a printed list of "I feel" statements she could've googled for free. She ended up just blocking her sister on everything and it worked way better than any of those scripts.

Huh, that's not quite right though. Blocking someone isn't really a "worked better" solution, it's just a different one - cutting contact instead of trying to fix things.

My sister paid a "peacemaking coach" $200 last year for a family mediation program that just told us to take turns talking with a talking stick. It was completely useless because my brother would just grab the stick and yell anyway. We eventually just stopped inviting him to holidays and that did way more than any of those scripted conversations ever did.
