My $600 'healing retreat' was just a high priced guilt trip

I spent $600 on a 3 day wellness retreat that promised to help me cut off toxic family members peacefully. Instead the leader spent the whole time telling me I needed to forgive and reconnect because 'family is everything.' That's the OPPOSITE of what I went there for. I walked out on day 2 and drove 4 hours home. Best money I ever wasted because it taught me to trust my own gut instead of paying someone to validate my choices. Has anyone else paid for professional help that just pushed forgiveness when you needed permission to walk away?

Yeah I read somewhere that forgiveness culture can actually keep people stuck in bad situations.

Wait, they told you to reconnect after you literally walked out on day two?

@phoenix_bailey makes a solid point about forgiveness culture but people mix up forgiveness with letting someone back into your life. Walking out on day two is a clear signal that something was seriously wrong from the START.
