My sister told me to just give our mom another chance. I should have listened to my gut instead.
My sister kept saying Mom had changed and we needed to let bygones be bygones. I finally agreed to meet her for lunch last month at a diner downtown. Within ten minutes she was making the same snide comments about my job and my weight like she always did. I walked out before the food even came and haven't spoken to either of them since. Has anyone else had family members pressure you into forgiving someone way too soon?

Yeah, that's rough. Did your sister actually witness the snide comments or did she just take your mom's word for it after you left? Because it's hard to trust someone who wasn't there to see the whole thing go down.

You know, that part about trusting someone who wasn't there really hits home. I had a friend once who got caught in almost the exact same situation (her mom and sister had a huge blowout at Christmas dinner). She didn't stay for the meal either, and later found out her mom had been telling everyone she "stormed out" when really she just had to get her kid to bed early. So she's stuck trying to defend herself against a story she wasn't around to correct. It's such a messy spot to be in, especially when the person telling the tale is your own mom.
